Abel-Iluko Blanket

When I started planning this Vigan trip. I only have 2 things on my mind: Tongson's Royal bibingka and Abel-Iluko blankets.
Thoughts of burnay or shall I say, pottery also came into mind but it's just damn too heavy and bulky to stuff it at the back of the car so what the heck! I say pass. At least I have another reason to go back and go pottery shopping-spree.

It was a Monday, right around breakfast time. We headed straight to Ining Ramos' store at the Vigan town market before actually grabbing some food to eat. I made chika chika with manang Chris and started my search for the perfect king size Abel-Iluko blanket. There she showed me variety of sizes and colors to choose from, but I opted for the simple and elegant off white blankets that I so love. First, I just needed to pick out the "paki bili" (buy me) blankets for dear friends and once its all done... I can hear myself singing, "It's my turn".

Manang Chris showed me a few special order designs that she asked her assistant to pull out from the storage. Two different weave pattern, both divine and a little more expensive than the rest. My eyes were popping out and the greedy monster in me was saying.... buy both! buy both! even if I was armed with "preferred Vigan family discount" I choose a much simpler design -perfect for my bed. She also pulled a matching pair of pillow cases to go with the blanket. My heart was already racing and my jaw dropped to the floor. My day was panning out perfectly.

I made my purchase and promised to return again to make more purchase. Manang Chris was so happy. I even told her that I need to take pictures so I can blog about this and make the whole world know about her fabulous blankets and sorts. Who knows? people reading my blog or simply people searching for Abel-Iluko blankets can read about them here. So if ever you are in Vigan town. Head straight to the town market. Forget about Crisologo street. The prices there are way expensive and 98% of the blankets being sold there came from the town market. Who knows? it may came from Ining Ramos' treasure trove.
